Why games are different from other services

The first thing to consider when it comes to the integration of gaming and blockchain is the fundamental nature of games. Due to the blockchain boom, various industries are tapping into blockchain technologies, and the gaming industry is one of them with much emphasis on digital asset transactions. This can have profound implications as in-game items and tokens as well as users’ game data can be traded based on blockchain.

A true integration of blockchain and gaming, however, can be brought forth only when it’s built upon a comprehensive understanding of gaming. Games are experience-based. Users play games for fun, rewards and accomplishment, so a different mindset from when using functional services like finance and healthcare.

Financial and healthcare customers have a specific purpose and needs with factors like the size of financial transactions and severity of one’s conditions determining the frequency or extent of use. Gamers, on the other hand, engage in game play because the experiences games provide are fun and enjoyable, not because they are necessary. And we believe this understanding needs to be incorporated into the integration of blockchain and gaming.

Trading of in-game assets is limited in terms of service value, scalability and sustainability; it serves a functional purpose, without much regard for the play experiences that make a game enjoyable.
